Joseph
was a child and had a lot of brothers. His father liked Joseph better because
he was more righteous then they were, so he made him a coat of many colors. The
brothers started to get really jealous so when they were alone with Joseph they
threw him in a pit. Then some men came by and the brothers sold Joseph to be a
slave in Egypt. Then they took his coat and then they killed a goat and put its
blood on the coat. After that they took the coat to their father and said that
a wolf killed Joseph.
Meanwhile Joseph was being sold and a man named Potiphar bought him. Potiphar was a
soldier for the pharaoh. Potiphar made Joseph his slave. God helped Joseph do
good work. Potiphar soon grew to like Joseph. He made Joseph the leader of his
slaves. Potiphar’s wife also liked Joseph and she tried to make Joseph kiss
her. Joseph knew that this was not right. He ran away from Potiphar’s wife.
Potiphar’s wife was mad. She told lies to Potiphar. Potiphar believed his wife,
so he put Joseph in prison. Joseph met two of Potiphar’s servants in jail. They
both had dreams that they did not understand. Joseph told them what they meant.
One servant died, and the other was let out of prison. Joseph was in jail for
three years. After a time the king of Egypt started to have dreams. He didn’t
understand them and no one seemed to know what it meant. The servant that was
let out told the king about Joseph. Joseph told that his dream meant that there
would be extra food for seven years. Then there would be a famine. Joseph said
that the people would have to save food for the famine. The king believed
Joseph, and then he made Joseph a leader of the people. After seven years the
people had much to eat. People bought food from Joseph. Then his brothers came
to get food. Joseph forgave them for all that they did. How did you like the
story? Can you tell me why it’s important to forgive people? If we do something
wrong we can take the sacrament to renew our covenants and it’s like getting
baptized again.
